Refocus Your Safety Thinking

Throughout June, Montana State Fund safety services specialist Kirk Smith will present our free virtual safety workshops Refocus Your Safety Thinking.

How will the workshops be run?
The Zoom workshops will include two topics. One topic presented in the morning and the second topic in the afternoon. Each session will be two hours with a break. This schedule format gives participants time to step away from their computers to avoid any ergonomic or eye strain issues.

  • Avert Workplace Violence: When someone hears the words workplace violence, they generally think: active shooter. But workplace violence is much more than just shootings. In this workshop we will break down what constitutes workplace violence. In addition, you will learn how to spot the signs of possible violence, techniques to de-escalate violent situations and ways to set up physical protection for you and your organization.
  • Reassess Safety: As many of your business operations begin to reemerge from the pandemic lockdown, now is an opportune time to step back and reassess your safety culture. In this section we will discuss how safety practices look across the state, how compliance rules differ between industries, and how employee illness and injuries affect your workers’ compensation rates. In addition, we will address your role in the Montana Safety Culture Act and explore trusted resources, including Montana State Fund’s newly redesigned website, that you can use to strengthen your safety efforts.
