Safety by Choice, Not by Chance

Join the Montana State Fund’s Safety Services staff at our next round of free safety workshops, Safety by Choice, Not by Chance.

Topics Include:

People-Based Safety (PBS) II – At the March 2013 workshops, we presented a brief introduction to PBS and how it applies to your workplace. In this session, we will delve even deeper into PBS by examining the ACTS, Acting, Coaching, Thinking, and Seeing - the four main concepts that form the foundation of PBS.

OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom)/Globally Harmonized System of Classifying and Labeling Chemicals (GHS)– Last year OSHA modified its hazard communication standard to include requirements of the United Nation’s Globally Harmonized System of Classifying and Labeling Chemicals. Learn more about the GHS and the changes that have occurred.

Montana Safety Culture Act – In 1993 the Montana Legislature addressed many problems within the workers’ compensation system. One of the solutions was the passage of the Montana Safety Culture Act. The legislators understood then, as we do today, that the one way to fix our workers’ compensation system was to prevent workplace injuries. They believed that if all businesses had a good safety culture this would most certainly lessen the burden of the system. Now twenty years later, we will review the Act, its concepts, and how it applies to the Montana workplaces of today.
